How сan healthcare innovation ease the impact of workforce shortages?
Executive summary
This white paper is based on a roundtable discussion hosted by AstraZeneca, NVIDIA, and Nebius, and examines how emerging AI solutions can address workforce deficits across healthcare. Total shortages will reach 11 million by 2030, according to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) factsheet.
All countries, regardless of income level, face an urgent challenge to train, employ, and retain healthcare workers, the WHO notes.
The roundtable explored how growing medical data, agentic, and generative AI can improve patient prioritization, reduce administrative burdens, and unlock novel therapies, strengthening healthcare systems, and their ability to deliver evidence-based care.
Potential pathways for collaboration on data sharing, AI adoption, and hospital readiness were also discussed by the roundtable participants and are reflected in this paper, which highlights opportunities for joint action by governments, industry, and healthcare systems.
